I am 33 years old and I come from Greenock. I started taking drugs
at the age of 13. I started smoking hash and drinking at the weekends
with my mates; this lead me onto other drugs. By the time I left school
I was hooked on temazepam. That’s when my life spiralled out of control;
I had lost all confidence in myself and I was just taking drugs to cope with life. That’s when I was introduced to heroin; I thought I had found the answer to my problem. However I was wrong; my problems had just began. The doctors gave me methadone as a substitute but the that just made my habit worse; my health deteriorated and my weight dropped to eight & a half stone. I had tried may times to get off drugs but it never lasted. I had resigned myself to the fact that I would die an addict because I had seen no way out.
I had lost all hope that was until I went on to the Teen Challenge outreach bus in Greenock where the volunteers showed me the love of Christ. They gave me a cup of tea and something to eat. They also told me about The Haven in Kilmacolm and they said it would be a great place to sort my life out. I filled an application form out and was accepted. I have been there since the 8th of June 2010 and my life has been totally transformed; I have found a deeper relationship with my Lord Jesus Christ who has given me my life back and given me the desires of my heart.
I am now doing some voluntary work at The Haven. And on the 2nd of June I am going on a 3 month mission trip to Indonesia to volunteer at a children’s home called Kings Kids. I will be helping the staff to cook the dinners for the kids and help out were ever I can.
Psalm 37 3-4 says
‘Trust in the Lord and do well. Dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart’
